Clearly an expert Shopify / web developer. Excellent team player.

I hired Reima to build and launch an entire Shopify store (Hamishco.com) and I was extremely happy with his work. We had a very tight timeline and I asked for "pixel perfect" adherence to our Figma design file. He went above and beyond to ensure an amazing pixel-perfect delivery from start-to-finish, and we were able to launch our new store on-time, on-quality, and on-budget.

He also went above and beyond initial requirements by adding theme editor capabilities to certain aspects of our store, which enabled our non-dev marketing team to make easier changes to content, pricing, and other elements.

Reima also worked vey well with our design team and project manager, quickly adapted to our preferred processes, and demonstrated excellent written communication skills. He also helped us develop some improvements to procedure to work together better as a team.

I hope to work with Reima much more in the future.

Fantastic experience!

Fantastic experience! I had a number of changes to make to my Shopify site. Some were easy but some were definitely complicated. Reima Benson made short work of all of them!

Furthermore, he made a number of suggestions on how we could approach the fixes that were better than anything I could come up with.

From speeding up my store, to implementing custom designs, to fixing any weird bugs with apps - he does it all.

Brief

  • Vtopo boasts an impressive collection of 3,000 sports traveling routes. However, a significant challenge arose when attempting to display these routes on a single page from their Shopify metaobjects. Shopify's limitation of rendering only 1,000 metaobjects at a time presented a roadblock. To overcome this limitation, a custom app was developed, enabling the rendering of all 3,000 metaobjects in JSON format directly from the Shopify admin dashboard.
  • The custom app, built using Node.js, seamlessly creates Shopify metaobjects from the provided JSON data, utilizing Shopify's GraphQL admin API. This app also ensures that the outputted JSON data is appropriately formatted for the storefront components.
  • The real challenge, however, lay in implementing advanced and complex filtering, sorting, and searching components for both the table entries and Google map points. These components needed to integrate flawlessly with the custom app and Leaflet JS (Map JS library) API.
  • By successfully developing this custom app and skillfully integrating the filtering, sorting, and searching functionalities, Vtopo now offers an exceptional user experience, allowing visitors to explore the vast array of sports traveling routes with ease.

  • I successfully migrated the Shopify Split theme from the outdated version (Shopify 1.0) to the latest version (Shopify 2.0), ensuring that all of the current store's settings and integrations were preserved seamlessly.
  • However, due to the significant number of updates in the old theme, I encountered challenges while performing the migration. Updating setting JSON data and some code snippets proved to be a daunting task. To overcome this, I decided to work directly on the latest theme version and meticulously incorporated all the features from the old theme while introducing new sections to enhance the store's design and functionality.
  • One of the key aspects of the migration was to handle pixel integrations and seamlessly integrate various apps, including the review app, social media app, and Recharge app. Among these, integrating the Subscription and Recharge app posed a particular challenge, given the limitations of the Split theme in customizing the product page while referring to the current theme.
  • With perseverance and expertise, I successfully integrated the Subscription and Recharge app, ensuring a smooth user experience for customers interested in recurring subscriptions and payments.
  • By accomplishing this migration and handling intricate app integrations, the store now operates with the latest theme version, offering enhanced features, a refreshed design, and smooth functioning throughout.

  • I successfully developed the Hamish & Co store from scratch, meticulously matching the Figma design using the Shopify Stiletto theme and integrating various Shopify apps to enhance the store's functionality.
  • The integration of the Rebuy app and Recharge Subscription app presented a significant challenge due to the presence of multiple discounts. To ensure seamless application and validation of these discounts, I strategically created a free product and utilized a custom Script to validate cart items effectively.
  • Creating visually appealing and responsive custom frame image banner sections was essential to enhance the store's aesthetics. Additionally, I focused on building well-customizable product pages, providing an intuitive shopping experience for customers.
  • To restrict access to the free product page, I developed a custom product page template exclusively for the free product, ensuring that the appropriate restrictions were in place.
  • Another successful integration was the Loox product review app, which significantly enhanced the store's credibility and customer engagement.
  • Despite the challenges and complexities involved, I managed to deliver the project on time and within the agreed budget, meeting all requirements and exceeding expectations.
  • With the Hamish & Co store up and running, it now offers a seamless shopping experience, enticing product pages, and an array of integrated apps that optimize customer satisfaction and sales.

As an e-commerce entrepreneur running a Shopify store, you pour your heart and soul into creating appealing products for your customers. However, there might be untapped potential in your online store. Have you considered how to entice customers to explore and purchase more of your offerings in a single visit? The key lies in increasing the average order value (AOV) - the average amount customers spend per transaction. In this article, we delve into proven strategies to boost AOV on Shopify, convincing your customers to spend more and elevating your store's profitability.

Understanding Average Order Value (AOV) on Shopify

AOV is a critical metric that quantifies the average amount a customer spends when making a purchase on your Shopify website. It acts as a barometer of customer spending patterns and the effectiveness of your sales strategies. Naturally, the AOV benchmark varies based on your product pricing. Lower-priced items generally yield lower AOVs, while higher-priced products lead to higher AOVs. However, before diving into optimizing AOV, ensure that you have a healthy conversion rate and adequate website traffic to gather reliable data.

The Importance of Average Order Value for Shopify Stores

AOV serves as a fundamental measure of customer value and the efficiency of your sales efforts. It directly impacts your store's revenue and profit margins. Let's consider an example: with an average product price of $5.99, if you receive around 1,000 customers per month and have a 4% conversion rate, an AOV just under $20 would result in monthly sales of approximately $800. By setting AOV as a benchmark and consistently tracking it, you can implement changes and assess their impact over time, leading to continuous growth and improvement.

Strategies to Increase Average Order Value on Shopify
1. Product Bundling for Tempting Offers

Leverage product bundling to entice customers into buying multiple items together at a reduced rate. Bundles not only incentivize increased spending but also introduce customers to a broader range of your offerings. To effectively track inventory, ensure that individual SKUs are added to the cart rather than creating entirely new products. Consider using apps like "Shopify Product Bundler" to create appealing bundle widgets on individual product pages.

2. Cross-Selling and Upselling for Added Value

Combine cross-selling and upselling techniques to optimize AOV. Cross-selling involves suggesting complementary products after customers show intent to purchase, while upselling persuades customers to upgrade to higher-priced alternatives. Implement both strategies to maximize spending.

Shopify's "You May Also Like" section on product pages intelligently recommends unique products to customers. Utilize pop-ups to recommend additional products before or after checkout, and consider offering exclusive discounts to further incentivize upsells.

3. Incentivize Spending with Price Milestones

Introduce incentives to encourage customers to spend more and reach price milestones. Display a progress bar directly in the cart, indicating how close they are to qualifying for free shipping or other benefits. Remind customers of promotions they can unlock as they progress through the checkout journey. Deliver promotions seamlessly to enhance user experience and encourage higher spending.

4. Harness the Power of Loyalty Programs

Loyalty programs not only improve customer retention but also boost AOV. Allowing customers to redeem previously earned points for rewards motivates higher spending with complementary products. Explore loyalty program solutions like "LoyaltyLion," renowned for its success in enhancing AOV for Shopify and Shopify Plus merchants.

Encourage customers to participate in your loyalty program by offering exclusive benefits and rewards. The more customers engage, the more they are likely to spend, resulting in increased AOV. Personalize loyalty rewards based on customer preferences and purchase history to enhance their shopping experience.

5. Utilize Customer Service Opportunities

Turn customer service interactions into opportunities for upselling and cross-selling. Whenever customers seek assistance, provide personalized product recommendations and offer exclusive discount codes.

Leading customer support tools like "Gorgias" have proven to significantly improve order volume and customer satisfaction for Shopify stores. Implement chat support on your website to engage with customers in real-time, addressing their queries and guiding them towards additional products that suit their needs. Always strive to exceed customer expectations, as satisfied customers are more likely to make repeat purchases and spend more each time they shop.

Conclusion

Maximizing the average order value on your Shopify store is a fundamental aspect of achieving sustainable growth and profitability. By applying strategies such as product bundling, cross-selling, upselling, loyalty programs, and customer service enhancements, you can create a shopping experience that encourages customers to spend more with each purchase. Remember to continuously monitor and analyze AOV performance to refine your tactics and stay ahead in the competitive e-commerce landscape.

Always prioritize customer satisfaction and personalized interactions to foster long-term loyalty, as delighted customers are more likely to become brand advocates and refer others, further contributing to increased AOV. Implement these expert strategies to elevate your Shopify store's sales, build lasting customer relationships, and secure a prosperous future for your business.

Understanding Shopify B2B and Wholesale

Shopify B2B and Wholesale refer to the specialized features and functionalities available on the Shopify platform to cater to business-to-business (B2B) and wholesale customers. These features are designed to meet the unique needs of businesses that sell products in bulk or offer exclusive pricing to other businesses.

Learn more

Shopify B2B and Wholesale refer to the specialized features and functionalities available on the Shopify platform to cater to business-to-business (B2B) and wholesale customers. These features are designed to meet the unique needs of businesses that sell products in bulk or offer exclusive pricing to other businesses.

However, it's important to note that the native Shopify wholesale features are only accessible through Shopify Plus, which is the enterprise-level plan. This means that if you want to use the built-in B2B features or create a dedicated wholesale channel on Shopify, you will need to invest in the Shopify Plus plan, which starts at $2000 per month and increases based on the percentage of your commerce sales as your business expands. While the cost of Shopify Plus may be higher, it comes with numerous advantages, including extensive customization, functionality, and automation possibilities through various Shopify apps, making it a worthwhile investment for businesses that can benefit from its high-yield results.

Alternative Options for B2B and Wholesale on Shopify

For businesses that do not have the budget to opt for the Shopify Plus plan, there are still viable B2B ecommerce solutions available on Shopify. B2B Shopify wholesale apps, such as SparkLayer, Wholesale Lock Manager, or Wholesale Club, provide excellent alternatives for companies looking to start selling to B2B buyers without the hefty price tag of Shopify Plus. These apps offer rapid setup and integration with your existing business data, streamlining your wholesale operations and providing a beautiful self-service product experience for your customers. Embracing these B2B apps allows your business to scale effectively and take your brand to the next level without breaking the bank.

Shopify and Shopify Plus for B2B and Wholesale

Shopify and Shopify Plus are powerful tools that seamlessly integrate with your business, making them ideal for B2B and Wholesale stores. If you run a wholesale business alongside your retail Shopify store, managing both stores can be time-consuming and inefficient. However, by leveraging the B2B channel on Shopify, you can merge your wholesale and retail operations into one single store. This enables you to update prices and customize the shopping experience based on the customer visiting your website.

Moreover, having all your inventory, orders, and customer data in one location on Shopify wholesale streamlines your business processes and maximizes efficiency. With the ability to manage retail and wholesale clients from the same platform, you simplify your operations and ensure a seamless customer experience for all types of customers.

Shopify's B2B functionality also offers a wide range of options for billing and pricing. You can implement volume discounts, create custom price lists for different B2B customers, and even offer net payment terms to streamline the purchasing process for your wholesale clients.

Another significant advantage of using Shopify's B2B features is the ability to operate a wholesale order center. This allows your B2B customers to place orders at their convenience, whether they are located internationally or in different time zones. By eliminating manual order forms and lengthy order processes, you provide a smooth and efficient purchasing experience, just like your ecommerce direct-to-consumer (DTC) customers enjoy.

Essential Features of Shopify B2B and Wholesale

Shopify's B2B and Wholesale functionality offer a plethora of features that any merchant can benefit from. Some of these features include:

  • Utilizing one store to offer unique pricing options, products, customer lists, and profiles with the Shopify B2B feature.
  • Creating a separate multistore location exclusively for selling wholesale goods using the Wholesale Channel.
  • Generating exclusive discount codes for wholesale customers or specific clientele.
  • Implementing volume-based discount levels and rules to reward B2B customers for larger purchases.
  • Providing unique prices and specific price lists tailored to different B2B customers.
  • Offering net payment terms for B2B customers, allowing them to pay as they usually would.
  • Seamlessly integrating with Handshake marketplace.
  • Managing large orders or credit limits effectively.
  • Offering a unique checkout experience with NET payment terms for B2B customers.
  • Benefiting from Shopify's outstanding features, including hosting and security, for both DTC and B2B customers.
  • Unlocking a wholesale ready storefront for your buyers using various B2B apps.

While these features provide valuable options for B2B and Wholesale merchants on Shopify, the Shopify Plus program and specialized wholesale channel offer even more cutting-edge capabilities to meet the specific needs of enterprise-level businesses. If you are interested in exploring these advanced features, don't hesitate to reach out for a demo of the configuration or B2B platform.

Limitations of Shopify B2B

Despite its benefits, there are certain limitations to consider before fully embracing Shopify B2B in your ecommerce operations:

  • New customer accounts must be created to access B2B functionalities, which may lead to additional steps for your customers during the registration process.
  • As Shopify B2B is relatively new, some third-party applications may not have been updated to fully support it yet, potentially limiting integration options.
  • Subscription-based products or services cannot be effectively implemented with Shopify B2B at the moment.
  • There is a limit of up to 500 line items in any order. If an order contains more than 500 different products or variants, it will be rejected from the wholesale system.

Additionally, it's important to assess whether your business requires an entirely separate storefront experience for B2B customers or whether you can manage the B2B side of your business through pricing and product changes on your existing store.

Creating a B2B & Wholesale Shopify Storefront

Shopify offers two main options for creating a B2B and Wholesale storefront:

1. Directly from Your Existing Store: Shopify's latest B2B feature release is designed to function directly through your original Shopify Plus storefront. This means that the content and experience remain consistent, while the pricing and B2B checkout options change based on the logged-in customer. The benefit of this approach is that you do not need to manage multiple stores, and the B2B store seamlessly integrates with your existing setup. However, if you wish to display dynamic content exclusively for B2B customers, you may require the expertise of a Shopify agency to implement custom coding that caters to B2B-specific needs. This option is ideal for businesses just starting with B2B or for those looking to trial B2B functionality on Shopify Plus.

2. Separate Password-Protected Storefront: Alternatively, you can create a separate password-protected store specifically for your wholesale clients using the Wholesale Channel offered by Shopify Plus. These protected pages are not visible on search engine results and are accessible only through a given page link, ensuring that retail customers do not have access to this area of your website. By using this approach, you can offer exclusive pricing and personalized discounts to your wholesale customers without affecting your standard retail operations. With wholesale on Shopify, your existing store's prices automatically adjust to match the B2B settings when a B2B customer logs in. For Shopify Plus users, there is also the option to leverage an expansion store instead of the wholesale channel, although advanced development may be required to achieve specific B2B features.

Moreover, Shopify Plus sellers can now provide their B2B business stores with a custom domain, creating a branded customer experience across channels and making it easier for customers to locate their wholesale storefronts. However, it's worth noting that the customization possibilities available through the wholesale storefront are relatively limited.

In conclusion, Shopify B2B and Wholesale offer a range of powerful features and options for businesses to cater to their wholesale customers effectively. By understanding the strengths and limitations of Shopify B2B, merchants can make informed decisions on how to best implement these features to grow their business and maximize their average order value. Whether you choose the Shopify Plus plan or opt for alternative B2B apps, leveraging Shopify's capabilities can lead to a more streamlined and profitable B2B and Wholesale ecommerce experience.

What is Headless Ecommerce on Shopify?

Step into the future of ecommerce with headless implementation on Shopify. In this cutting-edge approach, we separate the front-end of your store from the back end, breaking free from the limitations of traditional systems. At the heart of our headless ecommerce stores is Shopify, powering the back-end, while we leverage the agility of React, a powerful JavaScript framework, to build the front-end. This combination grants merchants unrivaled levels of complexity, empowering them to create unique shopping experiences that were once thought impossible. Say goodbye to restrictive back-end systems and embrace lightning-fast site speed, bespoke designs, and limitless possibilities.

Why Choose Headless on Shopify?

Are you ready to revolutionize your Shopify store? The answer lies in headless architecture. The main advantage of choosing a headless approach is speed – headless stores powered by React are built to be lightning-fast. Achieve top performance scores, impress your customers, and watch conversion rates soar. Unlike traditional platforms, headless grants developers complete control over what loads and when, liberating them from the confines of monolithic systems. Complexity becomes your ally as you create features that seamlessly communicate with Shopify and other platforms, tailored to your specific needs. Ideal for merchants who demand a bespoke and immersive customer experience, headless on Shopify breaks the barriers of the conventional ecommerce journey.

Challenges and Considerations

As an expert headless Shopify developer, I must stress that headless is not a one-size-fits-all solution. The decision to go headless requires careful consideration of associated challenges:

  • Costs: Headless development, especially with React-based frameworks, may attract higher fees due to the added complexity. While it may involve higher upfront costs, the return on investment comes from enhanced customer experiences, faster load times, higher conversion rates, and reduced reliance on third-party solutions.
  • Third-Party Integrations: Headless stores might require manual integration of features like reviews, social media feeds, and logistics providers, as out-of-the-box integrations with Shopify might not cover all your requirements.
  • Development Requirements: Managing a headless store may demand a higher level of development involvement, particularly for front-end content changes. While tools like Shogun Frontend offer greater control over your store, some features may still require developer intervention.
Diverse Ways to Build a Headless Ecommerce Store

As you venture into the realm of headless ecommerce, you have various options to explore:

1. Bespoke Frontend: Collaborate with developers or agencies to handpick and integrate backend functions, microservices, third-party add-ons, and middleware components, creating a fully customized and composable frontend experience.

2. Frontend-as-a-Service: Opt for a streamlined approach with platforms like Shogun Frontend. Implement a headless PWA build, enjoying all the benefits of enterprise headless commerce without the hassles of managing the ecommerce stack. Empower your merchandising teams with a low-code environment and unleash the potential of headless in its entirety.

Shopify as a Headless CMS

Shopify's storefront API empowers retailers to use Shopify's CMS in a headless setup for key database-related data, including customers, products, and settings. However, for front-end content management that would usually rely on themes or theme customizers, you'll need a third-party content management system like Shogun Frontend or Contentful. Edit content effortlessly without relying on developers, and maintain complete control over your storefront.

How Does Headless Ecommerce Work on Shopify?

With the flexibility of headless architecture, Shopify serves as an outstanding back-end, while the front-end can be hosted and powered independently. Many developers opt for hosting providers like Netlify and leverage React frameworks like Gatsby.js to create immersive and lightning-fast front-end experiences.

Within the Shopify ecosystem, you'll find Shopify's own solution – Hydrogen. This opinionated React framework seamlessly integrates with Shopify's back-end through the Storefront API. Deploy Hydrogen stores for free to Shopify's global hosting infrastructure, Oxygen. Benefit from an array of functionalities, including add to cart, customer data management, and content management, bridging the gap between Hydrogen and Shopify's backend databases.

Cost of Headless Ecommerce on Shopify

Embrace the power of Shopify's Hydrogen – it's free and open-source for developers. Additionally, deploy your Shopify Hydrogen stores without any charge to Shopify's global hosting infrastructure, Oxygen. All you need is an active Shopify plan, and you're good to go!

Is Headless Available on Shopify?

Great news – headless is available now on Shopify! You can dive right into the world of headless ecommerce and unleash the potential of Shopify Hydrogen and Oxygen simultaneously.

Shopify Plus and Headless Ecommerce

While Shopify Plus is not strictly required for headless ecommerce, certain APIs may demand a Shopify Plus membership to access. Notably, Shopify's Oxygen does require a Shopify Plus membership. Evaluate your needs and determine the right plan for your headless journey.

Summary

Break free from the limitations of traditional ecommerce – choose headless on Shopify to unlock unparalleled potential. While headless may not suit every merchant due to complexities and associated costs, it offers superior performance and the ability to tackle any challenge for a truly unique on-site experience. Embrace the future, embrace headless, and reimagine the possibilities of ecommerce!

In today's fiercely competitive online marketplace, site speed plays a pivotal role in determining the success of an e-commerce venture. A slow-loading Shopify website can result in higher bounce rates, diminished user engagement, and a negative impact on search engine rankings. To thrive in this digital age, it is essential for Shopify store owners to prioritize website speed and implement advanced strategies to optimize performance. In this comprehensive guide, we will explore expert techniques to enhance your Shopify site speed, ensuring a seamless and engaging user experience.

1. Image Optimization for Swift Loading

Compressing and optimizing images is the first step to accelerate your Shopify website. Large image files can significantly slow down page load times, frustrating visitors and potentially leading to lost sales. Employ image compression tools to reduce file sizes while maintaining image quality. Proven services like TinyPNG, TinyJPG, and Website Planet are invaluable assets in this pursuit. By optimizing images, you will provide your customers with a visually pleasing experience without compromising on loading speed.

2. Streamlining Shopify Apps for Optimal Performance

The judicious use of Shopify apps is crucial in maintaining site speed. While apps can enhance functionality, excessive installations can lead to unnecessary JavaScript/CSS files being loaded, even when not in use. A periodic review of installed apps is imperative, ensuring that only those adding significant value to customer experience are retained. Prioritize quality over quantity when integrating apps, ensuring that each one contributes meaningfully to your website's performance.

3. Selecting a Lightweight and Responsive Theme

The choice of a Shopify theme can have a profound impact on your website's speed and responsiveness. Opt for a lightweight and well-optimized theme that ensures swift loading across various devices and browsers. Stay vigilant about using updated themes to leverage the latest performance improvements and bug fixes. Collaborating with seasoned Shopify web designers can further enhance theme customization, resulting in an unparalleled user experience.

4. Minimizing Broken Links and Redirects for Seamless Navigation

Broken links and excessive redirects not only hinder user navigation but also contribute to sluggish site performance. Regularly conduct comprehensive link audits to identify and rectify broken links. Minimize the use of unnecessary redirects and opt for the "URL redirect" feature in Shopify when necessary. A seamless link structure enhances site speed, boosts user engagement, and fosters positive interactions.

5. Reducing HTTP Requests for Effortless Browsing

The number of HTTP requests directly impacts your site's loading speed. Employ cutting-edge tools like GiftOfSpeed's HTTP Requests Checker to assess your website's HTTP requests. To reduce these requests, consolidate and inline CSS scripts, inline smaller JavaScripts, and use images judiciously. Image sprites within CSS and converting images to Base64 code will also aid in this endeavor. By limiting the number of social buttons, you can further optimize site speed and enhance user experience.

6. Harnessing the Power of a Single Hero Image

Abandon the conventional slider approach and embrace a single, high-quality hero image that conveys your brand essence concisely. Sliders can be resource-intensive, leading to slow-loading pages and potential user disengagement. A hero image coupled with a clear call-to-action not only ensures faster loading times but also helps visitors quickly grasp your brand's identity and offerings.

7. Caching for Speed and Efficiency

Leverage caching techniques to store frequently accessed data temporarily. Browser caching enables returning visitors to access static resources without re-downloading them, reducing load times. For global audiences, adopting a Content Delivery Network (CDN) ensures faster access to your site from servers located closer to the user's geographical location.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the need for a fast-loading Shopify site cannot be overstated in today's digital landscape. By implementing these expert strategies, you can achieve remarkable improvements in your website's performance, ensuring seamless user experiences and higher conversion rates. Constant vigilance, regular site maintenance, and adherence to best practices will keep your Shopify store at the forefront of speed and efficiency, creating satisfied customers and elevating your e-commerce venture to new heights of success. Remember, a swift and responsive website is the cornerstone of a thriving online business.
